Welcome back to another edition of the XPERT blog, and off the back of the incredible XPERT weekender, we’re here to talk about workshops. But first off, what was the XPERT weekender?
The XPERT weekender went ahead in the home of all things XPERT and X-Pole in the UK, Potters Bar, and brought together XPERT trainers from all over the globe to come together and deliver their signature workshops. As we all know, XPERT has a roster of the best-of-the-best instructors on their books, so safe to say, this was one epic weekend!
So, what are workshops, and why do we do them? Well, whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been spinning around a pole or flying through the air for years, there’s
always room to grow, and workshops are a great way to do just that. Workshops are effectively a masterclass with an instructor – they are usually longer, so an hour and a half, and you will be getting a different level of detail from the instructor you are learning from than in a typical day to day class.
One of the best ways to keep improving, no matter your level, is by stepping outside your comfort zone and learning from different instructors. This might sound like a simple feat, but it’s incredibly powerful for your technique, creativity, and overall progress.
Why Workshops?
Workshops offer a concentrated learning experience that’s different from regular class settings. You get a chance to dive deep into specific skills, techniques, or styles that you might not normally cover. These sessions are taught by instructors who bring fresh insights, unique perspectives, and innovative methods. And that means a boost to your aerial and pole practice, whatever stage you are in your journey.
Plus, being in a workshop environment often allows you to focus purely on a dedicated skill or movement. Instead of juggling multiple exercises or skills in a regular class, you’re honing in on something more specific, which can really help you to focus on that particular branch of pole or aerial.
New Teachers Means New Perspectives Each teacher has their own unique style, background, and approach to teaching. When you learn from different instructors, you’re not just picking up new moves – you’re gaining new perspectives on how to approach your training. One teacher might emphasize strength and conditioning, while another focuses on flow and creativity. These different methods can compliment each other and help you become a more well-rounded aerialist or pole dancer. After all, sometimes, all it takes is hearing a particular cue or tip from a different instructor to unlock a move you’ve been struggling with. New eyes on your technique can reveal things you might have missed in your usual class routine.
Pushing Your Limits
When you attend workshops with a variety of teachers, you’ll often be pushed out of your comfort zone. Whether it’s mastering a difficult, high-level trick, experimenting with a new aerial apparatus, or even stepping into a new genre of movement, the challenge can reignite your passion and push your skills to the next level.
The key here is to approach workshops with an open mind. It’s normal to feel intimidated by a new skill or apparatus, or a little overwhelmed at the different
environment and teacher, but these moments of discomfort are where growth can happen. Workshops can help you push those boundaries and discover what you’re
truly capable of.
The Power of Community
Workshops aren’t just about learning new techniques – they also offer a chance to meet and connect with other aerialists and pole dancers. Whether you’re sharing equipment, supporting each other through challenges, or just enjoying the energy of the group, these experiences help build a sense of community. Working alongside other passionate dancers and aerialists creates a motivating atmosphere that can push you further than you might go on your own. Plus, you’ll often get the chance to network and collaborate with like-minded individuals – who
doesn’t love a big studio social!
Start Small, Dream Big
If you’re hesitant about attending your first workshop, don’t be! You don’t have to jump into the most advanced session right away. Start with a workshop that aligns with your current skill level and gradually work your way up. Whether it’s a weekend intensive or a one-day workshop, you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn in just
a few hours. No matter where you are in your pole or aerial journey, there’s always room to learn and grow. Workshops and new teachers are some of the best tools for pushing your limits, gaining fresh insights, and finding inspiration. So, why not take the plunge?
Your next breakthrough might just be one workshop away.
