Welcome back to another XPERT blog! Here in the UK, it really does feel like we’ve stepped into a brand new season. There’s something about spring, isn’t there? The days start to feel a little lighter, there’s more warmth in the air (which our poles so desperately need), and everything around us begins to wake up again. It’s subtle, but it totally shifts your energy. You might find yourself wanting to do a little more, try something new, or simply reconnect with routines that may have felt a bit harder over the winter months.
But let’s be real for a moment: not all of us glide into spring feeling motivated and ready to go. Sometimes we’re still carrying that slower, heavier energy. Maybe your training has felt a little inconsistent, or your progress hasn’t quite looked how you expected it to. Whether you’re a student or already teaching pole and aerial, it’s completely normal to feel a little in-between at this time of year. And that’s exactly why spring is such a powerful opportunity. And that’s not because you need to completely start over, or suddenly become a
‘new version’ of yourself, but because it offers a natural moment to pause, reflect, and gently refresh your approach to pole and aerial. Think of it less as a reset, and more as a realignment with where you are right now.
Come Back to Your ‘Why’ – One of the most helpful places to start when you want to look at spring cleaning your pole and aerial training is by coming back to your ‘why’. Before the goals and tricks, before the pressure to progress, there was a reason you first walked into a pole or aerial class. For some, it was about building strength or confidence. For others, it was about finding a space that felt supportive, creative, or simply different from anything else. Over time, it’s easy to lose sight of that and become focused on what you can’t do yet. Spring is a chance to reconnect with that original spark, because that’s what truly sustains your journey long-term, and what will always bring you back to your love of pole and aerial.
Refresh Your Goals (Spoiler alert: you don’t need to start over) – okay, step one is done. From there, it can be really powerful to look at your pole and aerial goals again; not to scrap them, but to reshape them. Let’s be honest, life doesn’t stay the same for long, and neither do we. What felt important a few months ago might not feel as relevant now, and sometimes it’s just like that. Whether you’re working on your own pole and aerial training or developing as an instructor, giving yourself permission to adjust your direction can bring a huge sense of relief. When your goals actually reflect where you are now, they feel motivating again rather than overwhelming.
Make Space for Support – another important part of this ‘spring clean’ is recognising that you don’t have to do everything on your own. Progress in pole and aerial isn’t just about turning up and hoping things click, it’s about choosing to support yourself in the right ways. That might mean learning from new instructors, surrounding yourself with a community that lifts you up, sometimes it’s taking a bigger step into your development through pole and aerial instructor training (psst, XPERT can definitely help with that). Investing in your learning can completely shift how you experience your training, giving you more confidence, deeper understanding, and a clearer sense of direction, whether your goal is to teach or simply to grow as a pole dancer or aerialist.
Update Your Habits (Kindness, Not Criticism) –
This spring time, it’s also worth gently checking in with your habits, but from a place of curiosity rather than criticism.
This isn’t about picking yourself apart or focusing on what you’ve been doing ‘wrong’.
Instead, it’s about asking what is actually supporting you right now.
You might notice that you’ve been pushing through sessions when your body needed rest, or comparing yourself to others in a way that takes away from your own progress. You
might also realise you’ve been staying in your comfort zone without even realising it. These are all completely normal experiences, and spring is simply an opportunity to shift them, little by little, in a way that feels kind and sustainable.
Try Something New This Season – And finally, there’s something to be said for trying something new at this time of year. As everything around us grows and changes, it can feel really aligned to bring that same energy into your pole and aerial practice. That doesn’t have to mean doing something dramatic: it could be as simple as exploring a different style, booking onto a workshop, or allowing yourself to think about teaching if that’s been at the back of your mind. For many people, this is the season where they take that step into pole and aerial instructor training, not because they feel completely ready, but because they feel curious, and that curiosity is often where the best growth begins.
The most important thing to remember through all of this is that you don’t need to be further ahead than you are right now. You don’t need to have everything figured out, and you definitely don’t need to start from scratch. Growth in pole and aerial is rarely linear, and every stage of your journey has value, even the ones that feel slower or more uncertain. Spring isn’t here to put pressure on you. It’s simply an invitation. An opportunity to reconnect with what you love, to support yourself a little more, to move forward in a way that feels right for you.
And if this does feel like your moment to take that next step, whether that’s deepening your knowledge or moving into teaching, our pole and aerial instructor training courses are here to support you. At XPERT, we’re passionate about helping you build real confidence, develop your skills, and grow into a knowledgeable, supportive instructor. So if you’ve been thinking about it, even just a little, take this as your sign to explore what’s possible. Your next chapter in pole and aerial might be closer than you think.
